Ian Webb is the founder of Private Capital Markets Corp. Ian brings to Private Capital and its clients a background in law and international affairs that has prepared him for complex transactions where there is a clear need for negotiating skills and a complete understanding of legalities and how to manage a transaction process. His expertise is increasingly necessary as business transactions become more international. Ian maintains connections with investors, buyers and private equity firms throughout North America, Europe and the Far East.

Ian holds a Doctor of Laws Degree with Specialization in International Affairs from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. After obtaining this degree, Ian served as an advisor and assistant in political offices in both the United States and Canada. His appointments included Office of the Mayor, Bureau of the Budget, New York and the Office of a Minister of the Canadian federal government.

Ian also holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He articled with and was an associate of a major Canadian law firm. Beginning in 1979, he operated his own law firm, specializing in corporate and commercial law, and in 1987 set up Private Capital as an investment banking business. During the past twenty years, Ian has been engaged in the investment banking industry. Prior to founding Private Capital, Ian was a partner of Capital Canada Limited, an investment bank based in Toronto.

He has successfully completed transactions in both the corporate finance and the acquisition and divestiture/sale sides of the business including:
  • The privatization of Terra Nova Telephone for CN Rail.
  • Assisting Derlan Industries, a Toronto Stock Exchange listed public company, to sell one of its divisions to a U.S. buyer.
  • Guiding Amtelecom (an independent telco) onto the Toronto Stock Exchange and financing $20 million in capital to implement its growth strategy.
  • Creating a strategic alliance between Applied Innovations Inc., a major computer reseller, and Valu-net Corporation, a business to business market-maker.
  • Assisting the owners of White Radio Limited to sell the Company to a Canadian publicly listed company.
  • Reorganizing/replacing $120 million of debt for Aluma Systems, a real estate service company.
  • Representing York County Quality Foods Ltd. in the successful tender (Federal) for the food and beverage operations at Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Airport, replacing Cara Operations Limited.
  • Representing Shorcan Brokers Limited in its sale to the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Ian is a recent graduate of the Directors Education Program presented by the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Rotman School of Management and he is a “Certified Director”.
